Project Description

Suicide First Aid Lite

Suicide prevention awareness training

13% of UK adults surveyed in February 2021 had had thoughts and feelings about suicide in the previous two weeks

This half-day Suicide First Aid Lite course was developed by the National Centre for Suicide Prevention, Education and Training (NCSPT). It teaches learners how to have a conversation that helps someone with thoughts of suicide stay safe.

Suicide can affect anyone and is one of the most preventable deaths.  A suicide intervention can take a little as 30 mins.

This course provides learners with information and tools to help them identify when someone may be thinking about suicide, listen non-judgementally and support the person to access help.  This course is suitable for all industries and sectors.

Learning includes:

  • stigma, survivors of bereavement by suicide and the ‘hidden toll’ of suicide

  • suicide – the ‘ripple effect’

  • suicide thoughts and suicide behaviours

  • intention of behaviour vs outcome of behaviour

  • possible causes of suicide thoughts

  • population-based approach to suicide prevention

  • the suicide safety plan

  • upskills managers and staff in how to have conversations about suicide

  • promotes early intervention and supports recovery

  • increased organisational knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues

  • support for wellbeing initiatives and culture change

Really grateful for this training

“Really grateful for this training. Beyond the important subject of suicide, I think it equips participants with a broader sense of awareness, perception and a helpful toolkit to support others and self.”
